Highschool of the Dead, known in Japan as Apocalyptic Academy: Highschool of the Dead is a Japanese manga series written by Daisuke Satō and illustrated by Shōji Satō. It was serialized in Fujimi Shobo’s Monthly Dragon Age between September 2006 and May 2013 issues but was left unfinished following Daisuke Satō’s death in March 2017.
Fujimi Shobo and Kadokawa Shoten published seven volumes from March 2007 and April 2011 in Japan. Yen Press published the English version of the series in North America. The story follows the journey of a group of high school students caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
A 12-episode anime adaptation, produced by Madhouse and covering the first four volumes, aired in Japan from July 5 to September 20, 2010. Madhouse also produced an original video animation (OVA) episode in 2011. Sentai Filmworks released an English dub of the anime series and OVA on DVD and Blu-ray in North America.
The supernatural story revolves around a group of a high school student. Their ordinary lives become horrible when the world was attacked by a deadly pandemic which turns humans into zombies. One missile suddenly blew up and got burst for the electromagnetic pulse during its launching. As a result, a bus got crashed and hit into the barricades those keep the zombies away from the Takagi territory. After that incident, the zombies breached the estate, and it was not safe anymore.
They can do everything but will not be able to survive from zombie apocalypse but never stop trying to get successes. They deal with an awful worldwide event and face several threats of societal collapse. They have to spoil their moral codes for several times to survive from this uneven situation. Finally, the students left the area and escaped into the town, which was not affected and make their way to a safe zone.
In the story, we see how does the fate of a group makes their life hell and how do they deal with the situation. At the finale, episode director remains a mystery to keep the interest hold on for Highschool of the Dead Season 2. Season 1 had a total of 12 episodes and every episode run for almost 18 minutes.

Highschool of the Dead Season 2 Release Dates & News Updates
On December 11, 2018, in an exclusive interview with Japanese pop culture website Comic Natalie, Shoji Sato, a manga artist, who stands behind Highschool of the Dead stated that it is “not easy” to draw a sequel to H.O.T.D. Season 2.
Shoji has been responsible only for artwork and has no relation to the storyline. Shoji nonetheless admitted that the manga is currently on hiatus only because of the author’s death.
Updates and Rumors about Highschool of the Dead Season 2
There was a lot of speculation regarding the release of season 2 since season 1 got over. But none of those got grounded. And above all of this the writer of this Manga’ Daisuke Satō’ died on March 22, 2017, without ending the story. All are hoping that a new writer will pick the story soon in 2019 to complete it. But it is also true that nobody can inherit the writer’s vision or continue the story in the same way how he wanted to plot it.
The original studio did not want to continue the apocalyptic plot due to the undesirable natural disasters earthquake and Tsunami which Japan faced recently. They consider it was not the right time to make a series full of disasters and deaths. But several foreign anime networks own the rights of this series for making the Highschool of the Dead Season 2 as per its huge fan following.
The apocalyptic story and its implementation on this anime series have won millions of hearts around the world. The fans are still wondering regarding the Highschool of the Dead Season 2. Some of them have also considered that the series might be canceled. But even, many fans do not want to lose their hope to watch their favorite anime’s sequel.
